This July, Venture Taranaki will host their third
Branching Out event to explore trees and their value chain.
Wood and fibre products are of increasing value and interest
worldwide, and are a worthy consideration for further
investigation in Taranaki.
At the event, on Wednesday,
28 July, at the War Memorial Centre in Stratford, attendees
will hear from experts how trees are currently utilised in
Taranaki, the economic opportunities, an overview of carbon
farming and the Emission Trading Schemes, and projected
future tree and fibre products. Topics will also cover
trees’ biodiversity contributions, and the options for
trees to be a complementary addition to existing land-uses

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the 1981
Springbok Rugby Tour to New Zealand and the protests which
reverberated around the world from it.
Former National
Organiser for HART (Halt all Racist Tours) John Minto is
traveling around the country holding meetings in all the
centres which hosted the Springboks in 1981 on the actual
dates of the games.
“We will be celebrating the
protests against apartheid in South Africa and stepping up
the campaign against apartheid in Israel” says John
Minto.
The tour had a big impact in South Africa and a
lasting impact in New Zealand by deepening the debate about

A
new Nelson Tasman Future Development Strategy (FDS) will
look at how Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council
can help meet housing and commercial property demand over
the next 30 years.
Both Councils committed to building
on the current 2019 FDS, at a joint committee meeting held
on 6 July, 2021.
Future development strategies are
based on requirements set out by central government in its
National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPS UD), the
latest of which came into effect in 2020.
The NPS UD
sets out the Government’s guidelines and rules for
development in cities across New Zealand. The 2020 version

In reaction to the UN’s State of Food Security and
Nutrition (SOFI) report revealing that nearly 12% of the
world’s population – or 811 million people – were
undernourished last year and that increase is equal to last
five years combined, Oxfam’s Emergency Food Security and
Vulnerable Livelihoods Advisor Emily Farr
said:
“Oxfam is extremely worried of these
downward trends, which will drift us further away from our
global 2030 zero hunger target, and will only get worse
unless the alarms raised are heard. The pandemic was the
last straw for millions already battered by the impacts of
conflict, economic shocks and a worsening climate
signatures calling on the Government to
take urgent action to ensure that public services
are accessible to all, recognising that a
‘digital first’ approach does not work for everyone. The
CAB highlighted that this is about making sure that
vulnerable people in society are not left behind in the rush
to digitally transform public services.
The
petition was received by
Hon Dr David Clark,
Minister for Digital Economy and Communications,
along with a raft of Labour and National party MPs
who turned out to support the cause.
