Revenue growth to $1.41 billion and NPAT to $35 million
enables investment to grow
Datacom Group today
reported financial results for the year to 31 March 2021
(FY21). Revenue climbed to $1.41 billion, up from $1.34
billion in the prior year (FY20). Net profit after tax is
$35 million, an improvement over the previous year’s $19
million, as the company continues to position for future
growth across the Group. Full-year operating cash flow
remains solid at $156 million.
FY21 saw Datacom focus
on the future sustainability of and reinvestment in its
businesses. The company prioritised the safety and wellbeing
of its people and customers in the response to COVID-19,

Helping public understanding of New Zealand’s COVID-19
response has been a focus for both recipients of this
year’s Critic and Conscience of Society Award, presented
by The Gama Foundation in a ceremony in Christchurch today
[6 July].

Two $50,000 Critic and Conscience of
Society Awards are being presented: to Associate Professor
Siouxsie Wiles (University of Auckland) and
Professor
Alexander Gillespie (University
of Waikato).
The award was established to encourage
academic staff at New Zealand universities to act as
District Health Boards say their focus remains on finding
a way settle the Multi Employer Collective Agreement (MECA)
negotiations with the NZ Nurses
Organisation.
Spokesperson Dale Oliff says DHBs spent
two days with the NZNO and an independent mediator last week
discussing options for settling the pay talks, and while
nurses have endorsed a strike proposal, DHBs believe they
can come up with an offer to settle the pay
talks.

options and will be working with the union again this week
to progress those discussions before the DHB and NZNO

The first attempt
was in 2005. At the time, the hazard lines were deferred in
order to first develop a wider Coastal Strategy which was
finalised in 2006. Although this strategy discusses hazards
management, it does not identify any hazard lines.
The
second attempt was in 2012. This time, Council placed 50 and
100-year hazard lines on 1800 properties on the coast by way
of the Land Information Memorandum (LIM). In addition,
Council introduced the policy of managed retreat,
threatening to withdraw water, stormwater and sewerage
services from the 1800 homes even before their land or
buildings would suffer damage. Moreover, Council were

“Government and Reserve Bank policies aimed at cooling
down the housing market have seemingly lost some of their
impact, with real estate agents now reporting a bounce,”
says Derryn Mayne, Owner of Century 21 New
Zealand.
Her comments follow the release of July’s
REINZ & Tony Alexander Real Estate Survey. It revealed a
net 53% of agents continue to feel that prices are rising in
their area, compared to 32% last month. At the same time, a
gross 60% feel that FOMO (fear of missing out) remains a
factor for buyers – up from 51%.
The survey showed
there is still a high net 52% of agents who say they are
