The 1981 South African Springbok rugby tour of New
Zealand divided a nation – 40 years on, we’re revisiting
this historic event with a modern twist.
Wellington
City Libraries and City Archives have dug up news clippings,
photos and ephemera from the tour, and will be live tweeting
them 40 years from the date they happened throughout July,
August and September.
The controversial rugby tour saw
violent clashes between rugby fans, anti-apartheid
protestors and police across the country, and is still a
significant part of our history says Mayor Andy
Foster.

A Disciplinary Committee has upheld a complaint raised by
Tasman District Council about Steven King-Turner, Chartered
Professional Engineer and Chartered Member of Engineering
New Zealand.
Mr King-Turner issued a producer
statement 4 for construction review (PS4), certifying
construction work completed complies with the Building Code,
before building consent had been obtained. The Council
became aware of this while processing the building consent
application to
authorise the work.
Mr
King-Turner was found to have failed to enquire whether
building consent had been granted before issuing the
PS4.
He was also censured and ordered to pay a fine
and contribute 50 percent of all investigation costs,

The union
is proposing three strikes:
24 hours from 11:00
am, 29 July – until 11:00am, 30 July
8 hours from
11:00 am, 19 August
24 hours from 11:00 am, 9
September – until 11:00am, 10
September
Nurses, midwives and healthcare
assistants went on strike for eight hours earlier this month
and DHB Spokesperson Dale Oliff says since then, DHBs have
been talking to the union exploring options for a settlement
and setting dates for negotiations.
“As soon as the
last strike was over, we reached out to the NZNO looking for
ways we could make progress.
“We agreed on an
independent mediator to find areas of common ground and a
path to settlement.

Andrew Little needs to stop making excuses and take
ownership on mental health, says National’s Mental Health
