President-elect Joe Biden reportedly asked Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to serve in his Cabinet, but the Democrat turned down the offer.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing Rashad Taylor, Bottoms’ senior adviser, reported that the mayor is focused on the people of her city and “respectfully declined the offer.
Bottoms and the Biden transition team did not immediately respond to an email from Fox News early Monday. It was not immediately clear what position Bottoms was offered.
Bottoms, who is a Black woman, made national news earlier this year as she clashed with Republican Gov. Brian Kemp over whether she had the authority to mandate that masks be worn in Georgia’s largest city.

Although President Donald Trump and the Trump campaign s legal team are still challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) are moving full steam ahead with their proposed cabinet and staffers.
The duo has reportedly decided to tap Center for American Progress (CAP) President Neera Tanden to serve as director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and General Lloyd Austin to serve as Defense Secretary. Biden also picked Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen to serve as Treasury Secretary.
But the duo hit a snag. One of the Democratic Party s rising stars – Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms – was reportedly offered a position in the Biden administration but turned down the offer.

ATLANTA, GA Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms turned down an offer to serve in President-elect Joe Biden s Cabinet, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Saturday. A spokesperson for the mayor and the Biden Transition Press Office both confirmed this statement. Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was honored to have been offered a role in the Cabinet, which she respectfully declined, said Rashad Taylor, senior adviser to the mayor, in a statement.
The statement did not clarify which Cabinet position Bottoms was offered. According to the AJC, Biden s office did not answer a question about which Cabinet position Bottoms was asked to fill.
