Russia says NATO Black Sea drills destabilizing, demonstrate aggression - World News

2021-07-01 22:36:11 GMT2021-07-02 06:36:11(Beijing Time) Xinhua English MOSCOW, July 1 (Xinhua) The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is purposefully destabilizing the situation along Russia s border with the Sea Breeze 2021 military exercises, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday. With the involvement of more than 30 countries and 5,000 military personnel, these exercises cannot be called friendly or considered regular drills but are clearly politically driven, the ministry s spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at her weekly briefing. The Black Sea space is consistently being transformed by Washington and its allies from an area of cooperation into an area of violent confrontation, Zakharova said.

WASHINGTON  Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken seemed to revel in the reception he got in Europe this last month, embraced by officials effusive about his “America is back message and perhaps happy simply that he wasn’t as scornful as his predecessor, Michael R. Pompeo. Blinken’s stated mission was to revitalize U.S.-European ties, following up on a similar trip by President Biden and allies were eager to accommodate after four years of Trump-era isolationism. But out of the public eye, Blinken had a more difficult task: galvanizing a united front against the power that Washington now sees as the Western world’s greatest threat, China.
