Announced Tuesday, the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League which is home to teams like the Strathroy Rockets, announced the hiring of Brent Garbutt as commissioner. Garbutt comes to the GOJHL from Ontario University Athletics (OUA) as their Manager of Sport, while also currently working as a Video Coordinator in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Situation Room. He possesses extensive experience within the junior hockey and Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) landscape from his time with the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). Garbutt now resides in Burlington with his wife, Nicole and son, Reichen. He starts his new role on April 12th.

The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League has put their return to play on hold due to Provincial restrictions.
The League said in a statement that they will continue to work with public health units and facilities to develop a Return to Play Plan that will ensure the safety of players, staff, fans and officials are priority.
Commissioner Mark Tuck said in a statement “ that the league is looking at all options in order to hold some form of a season.”
He added that the league is doing everything to ensure everything can be done in a safe way.”
GOJHL pauses Return to Play Plan

The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League is pressing pause on its return to play.
In a press release issued Wednesday morning, the league says its return to play plans have been put on hold with the Ontario-wide shutdown’s new restrictions closing indoor sports facilities.
GOJHL Commissioner Mark Tuck says the league’s priority is to “exhaust all options in order to have some form of a season” and he adds they are doing everything they can to “get our players, teams and league through development and gameplay to a safe return to the ice.”
