Louisiana Economic Development (LED) Secretary Don Pierson announced Tuesday Louisiana will host the 14th American Competitiveness Exchange (ACE) from Nov. 6-12, 2021. ACE is the premier economic development, innovation, and entrepreneurial network of the Americas and a leading initiative of the Organization of American States (OAS). International delegates will engage with Louisiana s cutting-edge research institutions, entrepreneurial hubs, foreign trade zones, and world-class business sites during the tour. ACE serves as an opportunity for Louisiana to enhance its presence across many industries and global markets, according to an LED release.

BATON ROUGE The petrochemical industry has long battled with the river pilots who help steer ships up and down the Mississippi River, mostly over the large fees the pilots charge industrial firms for their services.
Most of the skirmishing has played out in obscure regulatory meetings, with occasional faceoffs in court. Now, for the first time in years, the battle will move to the Louisiana Legislature.
House Bill 650 pushed by the chemical and energy industries and sponsored by Rep. Thomas Pressly, R- Shreveport, would make sweeping changes to the regulatory boards and rules for pilots. It would add industry members to their oversight panel and require the notoriously nepotistic groups to make an annual report of pilots, including a list of how many are related to other pilots or public officials. The bill was scheduled for a committee hearing Monday.

NEW ORLEANS Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and the St. Bernard Parish Council have come out against the proposed $2 billion Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion.
The officials called it a threat to commercial and recreational fishing, bottlenose dolphins and the economies and cultures of St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes.
Councilwoman Kerri Callais said the estimated 21 square miles of new land created by the diversion over 50 years is not enough to offset the potential loss of revenue from fisheries or the effects on the area s heritage.

Paul Aucoin, executive director of the Port of South Louisiana, is one of four newly appointed members of the World Trade Center of New Orleans’ board of directors. The three other new board members are Michael Hecht, president and CEO of Greater New Orleans Inc.; Heather Hohensee, Tellurian Inc.’s government and public affairs director; and Dolph Parro, executive vice president of Republic National Distributing Company.
“These professionals join an industrious, talented and diverse World Trade Center board that, since 1944, has had the privilege of working with high-profile trade-industry leaders, both domestically and internationally,” said World Trade Center of New Orleans Chairman Stephen Hanemann.
