TWO-HOURLY: Blackrod station SEVERAL train services in the Bolton area are yet to return to pre-pandemic levels of service, say city region transport chiefs. Rail offerings by Northern have improved, since lockdown restrictions began to ease, according to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority s rail networks sub-committee. This includes Blackrod enduring an off-peak reduction to one train every two hours. There is also no Wigan-Bolton-Stalybridge service on Sundays. And some peak services are not operating along the Atherton route, compared to timetables pre-Covid. In a sub-committee report Caroline Whitham, Transport for Greater Manchester s head of rail services, said: Whilst there has been a service uplift, increasing frequency and capacity across most of Greater Manchester, some Northern routes have not seen a return to pre-Covid levels of service.
