FULTON & MONTGOMERY COUNTIES – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York has filed notice with Fulton County Supreme Court indicating it will be participating in the upcoming court proceedings over the matter of the potential sale of three F-MCC dormitory halls owned by the nonprofit Fulmont College Association.
The court filing indicated Assistant U.S. Attorney John D. Hoggan Jr. will be appearing in the case on behalf of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. The USDA in 2010 loaned the Fulmont College Association $11.3 million for the purpose of purchasing and renovating the 1980s-vintage Fulton Hall and Montgomery Hall dorm buildings for $4 million and then building in 2012 the 144-bed, co-ed Raider Hall dorm for $7.1 million.

CAPITOL In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit nursing homes and group living facilities hard, a local state assemblyman is proposing that the state again encourage families to build additions to their homes to care for the elderly, or disabled adults who can’t live independently.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, D-Rotterdam, has introduced legislation in the Assembly that would offer homeowners access to interest-free loans for up to half the cost of adding an additional bedroom or two to existing homes the concept often known as adding an “in-law” apartment. The maximum on such a loan would be $50,000.

ROTTERDAM Tom Baum and about 16,000 other retired Teamsters got some good news recently. The 29 percent pension cut they suffered three and a half years ago is being restored as part of President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan designed to pull the nation’s economy out of the economic mess created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The massive Rescue Plan contains $82 billion to help shore up pensions in general.
WATERTOWN â The National Weather Service is calling for gale force winds Monday night into the overnight hours Tuesday â a prediction that has prompted National Grid to increase staffing to closely monitor the situation.
National Grid announced Monday morning that the organization would be increasing staffing and extending evening and overnight work shifts to monitor the weather forecast in Northern New York, Central New York and the Greater Capital Region. The high-wind forecast, which began Monday afternoon, is expected to cause power outages.
Virginia Limmiatis, a public relations official with National Grid, said the areas that are most concerning are near the New York State Thruway â the Central New York and Mohawk Valley regions. But Ms. Limmiatis said there will also be crews in the Northern New York area as well.
