State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar said that the SEC had decided to continue the election process from the state of withdrawal of candidature, as the commission had stopped the election process mid-way on March 15, 2020 due to threat of COVID-19 for a period of six weeks and issued further orders on May 6, 2020 continuing the postponement of election process until further orders.

The notification pertains to the resumption of the electoral process with respect to 12 MCs as well as 75 nagar panchayats in 13 districts from the stage of withdrawal of candidature . State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar said: With the issuance of the notification, Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the urban areas of Andhra Pradesh from Monday. It shall remain in force till the completion of the election process.

Representational Image According to a notification issued by the SEC, the counting of votes polled in the elections to 12 Municipal Corporations, including Greater Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, and 75 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats would be taken up on March 14. The announcement came amid the ongoing four-phase elections for panchayats in the state of which two had been completed. The remaining phases would be held on February 17 and 21.
