News from Greater Wellington Regional Council A long term plan focused on meeting the challenge of climate change and building regional resilience was adopted today by the council. The 2021-31 Long Term Plan, which sets Greater Wellington’s priorities and budget for the next ten years, was developed over the past 18 months, and has climate change as its driving factor. “Since declaring a regional climate emergency, Greater Wellington has focused on how it can reduce emissions and improve the region’s resilience to the impact of climate change,” says Chair Daran Ponter. “I’d like to thank the many people and organisations for their engagement with the plan and for helping shape the region’s progress over the next decade, because there’s no way of avoiding the vital issues the plan covers. Many are fundamental to our wellbeing and directly affect how we live. This is a transformational plan for uncertain times.”

News from Greater Wellington Regional Council The 2021 Regional Land Transport Plan (RLTP) was adopted at today’s regional council meeting. The RLTP integrates transport planning for the region, outlines the strategic direction for transport and details transport investment planned for the next six years in the context of consistency with the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport. “This is a timely plan and a great day for a region looking ahead at the fundamental role of transport in regional development and its role in climate change mitigation”, says Greater Wellington Chair Daran Ponter. “The plan will move us towards a safer and more sustainable transport network. It provides for efficient connections that make it easier to move people and freight, and has a direct impact on making the region a desirable place in which to live and work.”
