Officials say it is used by hundreds of construction workers Poor maintenance of toilets near the parking lot at Chennai airport has irked many air passengers.
On Tuesday, soon after a passenger posted pictures showing how badly this toilet was maintained, it attracted a lot of criticism on how an international airport should not be turning a blind eye to some of the basic facilities.
Chozhan, a Twitter user, posted: “Dear Prime Minister, see the poor maintenance of our one of the important international airports @PMOIndia @AAI Official. Strict action should be taken against the maintenance contract company.”

State government issues a new advisory and protocol
The State government has issued fresh guidelines and COVID-19 protocols for people entering the State from Maharashtra and Kerala.
All passengers arriving from Maharashtra and Kerala must undergo seven days of home quarantine and seven days of self-monitoring of their health. If, during this period, they develop fever, cough and breathlessness, they must visit a health facility for treatment.

A few weeks ago, a vehicle going for rounds in the tarmac at the airport found a man roaming in the apron area. On enquiry, they found he had jumped onto the tarmac through Gate No. 6 from GST Road. This could have been avoided if a perimeter intrusion detection system was in place.
The idea was mooted a few years ago but the system is yet to be installed. Tenders should have been floated already but it is not clear why there had been a delay and why it had not been implemented still.
