KOLKATA: Upen Biswas, former Trinamool minister and the man who was among the intelligentsia who supported Mamata Banerjee when she ousted the 34-year-old Left Front in 2011, has resigned from the party.

New Delhi: A total of 75.06% voter turnout was registered until 5 pm on Monday in phase seven of the West Bengal Assembly polls, the Election Commission said.
Voting took place for election to 34 constituencies in the assembly, across Paschim Bardhaman, Dakshin Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Malda and south Kolkata.
