The All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is a group of public medical colleges that have been declared as institutes of mational importance. AIIMS New Delhi, the parent institute, was established under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956, as a “temple of modern India” to achieve Prime Minister Nehru’s vision of having a centre of excellence in medical sciences in India. Today, it is among the top medical colleges in India. The institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient care. It conducts teaching programmes in medical and para-medical courses both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and awards its own degrees. AIIMS also runs a college of nursing and trains students for BSc (Hons) Nursing post-certificate degrees. As of now, AIIMS offers admission to 807 seats, which is available across nine functional institutions New Delhi, Rishikesh, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Guntur, and Nagpur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Rajkot in Gujarat on Thursday via video conferencing. Giving the information, the Prime Minister tweeted, At 11 AM tomorrow, December 31, will lay the foundation stone of AIIMS, Rajkot. This project will improve the healthcare infrastructure in Gujarat. As per an official statement, 201 acres of land has been provided by the government for the project. . It will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 1195 crores and is expected to be completed by mid of 2022. The state-of-the-art 750-bed hospital will also have a 30-bed AAYUSH block. It will have 125 MBBS seats and 60 nursing seats, it stated.
