AMARAVATI: Night curfew will be clamped across Andhra Pradesh from Saturday in a bid to curb the virulent spread of coronavirus as the state crossed the one million mark in total cases. The night curfew will be in force daily from 10pm to 5am. Only essential and emergency services, like medical and health, milk supply, will be allowed, deputy chief minister (Health) AKK Srinivas (Nani) told reporters after a high-level Covid review meeting, chaired by chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Amaravati, March 16: AP Government Chief Whip Gadikota Srikanth Reddy questioned Chandrababu Naidu as to why he is feared of CID notices and dared him to face inquiry instead of getting stays from courts.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu is known for getting stays to stay away from investigations. Referring to Nara Lokesh saying that the court had given them a clean chit, he stated that TDP leaders are trying to distort the fact and mislead people. In this context, Srikanth Reddy said that TDP leaders should not bring a stay if they think justice will be done to them in the courts.
CHIRALA: In a surprising development, at least 13 independent candidates elected as councilors in Chirala municipality in Prakasam district. All the independent candidates were backed by former legislator Amanchi Krishnamohan of YSRC.
No other town or city in the state has seen independent candidates winning so many seats in the municipal elections of which results were declared on Sunday. Although YSRC is in a comfortable position to clinch the chairperson seat as it won 19 seats in the 32-member council, the victory of 13 rebel candidates is likely to pose more troubles to the party in the coming days.
Former MLA Amanchi fielded the rebel candidates as the party decided to extend support to the legislator Karanam Balaram who switched sides to YSRC from TDP. AMARAVATI: Stage is set for the counting of votes for the 11 municipal corporations and 70 municipalities/Nagar Panchayats in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday (March 14).
The urban local bodies (ULBs) elections are being held amid a strong attack on the government by a combined opposition which has accused the ruling YSR Congress of resorting to high-handed tactics, abuse of state machinery, particularly the police, in a bid to grab the civic bodies.
Elections were held on Wednesday for 71 municipalities and Nagar Panchayats and 11 municipal corporations in the state, with 78.71 lakh eligible voters.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation went to polls after over a decade, the first after its expansion.
