Pioneering California University Launches New Virtual Reality Pilot to Train Aspiring Nurses
National University uses federal grant to offer innovative, immersive community health care simulation experience

LA JOLLA, Calif., Feb. 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ National University, a nonprofit institution celebrating its 50th anniversary of serving veterans, educators, and working adults, today announced it has launched a new virtual reality training initiative that is providing nursing students with hands-on clinical experiences in a simulated environment. The new simulation scenarios allow students to practice and hone skills needed on the job without compromising the health and safety of patients or students during COVID-19.

President Joe Biden has appointed Susan Orsega to serve as acting surgeon general, according to a posting on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
Orsega, who has served as the director of commissioned corps headquarters at the Office of the Surgeon General since March 2019, will be among a handful of nurses appointed to fill the role of surgeon general. Rear Admiral Orsega is a longtime champion of public health whose visionary leadership has strengthened health care equity and access for our nation, said American Association of Nurse Practitioners president Sophia L. Thomas in a statement.

Catherine Alicia Georges, EdD, RN, FAAN, has served on the AARP Board of Directors since 2010, and was elected by the Board to serve as AARP’s National Volunteer President through June 2020. In this role, Dr. Georges is the principal volunteer spokesperson for AARP and a liaison between the Board and those AARP serves.
