The Senate on Wednesday confirmed President Biden’s nomination of Michael Regan as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
The vote was 66 to 34, The Washington Post reported. But Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee ranking member John Hoeven, R-N.D., was one of the Republicans who did not vote to confirm Regan.
Hoeven issued the following statement after voting to oppose the confirmation: “The Biden administration’s executive actions are a real threat to North Dakota’s economy, including our energy and agriculture producers. Further, the president has made clear that he intends to continue imposing burdensome regulations that will undermine our domestic energy industry, hurt the reliability of our electric grid, increase costs for producers and consumers and lead to the loss of good-paying jobs. The co-chairs of the House Biofuels Caucus have introduced two new pieces of legislation to increase access to biofuels and to fully recognize their environmental benefits.
Rep. Cindy Axne, D-Iowa, and Rep. Rodney Davis, R-Ill., led the introduction of the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Investment and Market Expansion Act, which would expand access to higher blends of biofuels. Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., was the lead sponsor of the Adopt GREET Act, which will direct the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to update its greenhouse gas modeling for ethanol and biodiesel.

I’m also proud to support Johnson’s legislation to ensure the EPA is using the most up

This week, South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson introduced the Adopt GREET Act, a measure that would require the Environmental Protection Agency to update its greenhouse gas modeling for ethanol and biodiesel. The American Coalition for Ethanol supports the bill. ACE Board Director and Past South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Troy Knecht says they’ve been working on this type of approach for sometime. He says it’ll more accurately reflect the environmental benefits of agriculture and biofuels.
He says this legislation calling for science based determinations has the potential to help move forward the biofuels industry.

Legislators are looking to expand access and acceptance of biofuels with the introduction of several bills this week on Capitol Hill.
On Wednesday, Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., introduced the Adopt GREET Act, a bill which would require the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to update its greenhouse gas modeling for ethanol and biodiesel to more accurately reflect the environmental benefits of agriculture and biofuels. The GREET model is a tool which examines the lifecycle impacts of vehicle technologies, fuels, products, and energy systems.
