But other states and cities and some major businesses took a wait-and-see attitude Friday amid questions of whether the new stand is safe or workable, given that there is no easy way to know who has been vaccinated and who hasn’t. The guidelines essentially leave it up to people to do the right thing.

American Federation of Teachers (AFT) president Randi Weingarten is facing criticism from parents and Republicans over a speech she gave in favor of fully reopening schools this fall.
Weingarten, and teachers unions generally, opposed returning to in-person learning for much of the pandemic. Weingarten s late rebranding as a proponent of reopening schools prompted a fresh round of criticism. Conditions have changed. We can and we must reopen schools in the fall for in-person teaching, learning and support. And we must keep them open fully and safely five days a week, Weingarten said in a speech Thursday.

Labor groups and others warned that employees at stores, restaurants and other businesses could be left exposed to the coronavirus from customers and could be forced into the unwanted role of “vaccination police.”

WASHINGTON D.C. Today, Congressman Steven Horsford voted for the bipartisan passage of H.R. 1065, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. The legislation would ban discrimination against reasonable accommodations for pregnant workers.
