In a recent op-ed, the president of Michigan’s second largest teachers union stated, “One thing we know for certain is that we need to start paying educators what they’re worth .”
The opinion piece by David Hecker, president of the American Federation of Teachers-Michigan, appeared in the May 4 edition of The News-Herald of Sterling Heights.
Hecker’s statement is ironic because teacher contracts negotiated by the union he heads base pay almost entirely on just two factors. These are a teacher’s seniority and the number of college credits and credentials the teacher has acquired. The same is true for contracts negotiated with public school districts by the state’s largest teachers union, the Michigan Education Association.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to delay for as long as possible resuming in-person learning for public school students due to the Wuhan coronavirus (Covid-19).
A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from the group Americans for Public Trust revealed that there was extensive communication between the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the CDC, and the Biden regime in the weeks leading up to the CDC’s release of school reopening guidelines back in February.
Apparently, public school teachers all across the country have enjoyed not having to show up to teach students in person for the past year. To avoid ever having to come back at all, they are now bullying the CDC into continuing its fear campaign over the Chinese Virus in the hopes of keeping students at home forever.
CDC Adopted Language From Top Teachers Union in School Reopening Guidance
The second-largest teacher’s union in America was in close contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on school reopening guidance, even successfully getting some of its recommendations inserted into the official guidance, newly released records show.
The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and its president, Randi Weingarten, spoke multiple times with top CDC officials in the days leading up to the agency’s Feb. 12 publication of the guidance, according to internal emails (pdf) obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by Americans for Public Trust, a watchdog group.

The three main broadcast networks appear to be turning a blind eye on the bombshell report that showed a top teachers union influencing the Biden administration s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over reopening schools.
On Saturday, the New York Post revealed communications between the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), The nation’s second-largest teachers union, and the CDC and the White House showing the union suggesting guidance on whether or not to roll back school restrictions.
Right-wing media are freaking out after the New York Post wrote about an exchange of emails between officials from the American Federation of Teachers and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the agency s guidance on school reopenings. Even though the major teachers union expressed sensible concerns about educators’ safety, reports on the Post story from Fox News and Sinclair Broadcast Group are choosing to demonize the routine discussion between a government agency and a group representing well over 1 million stakeholders in the CDC’s decision one of more than 50 organizations that the CDC contacted for input into its decision.
