The office of Governor Gretchen Whitmer has released the following: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined today with Republican and Democratic legislators to announce the launch of the $30 million Michigan Reconnect program, the largest effort in state history to ensure that more than 4.1 million Michiganders who are 25 or older and do not have a college degree will have an opportunity to earn a tuition-free associate degree or skills certificate.  “All Michiganders deserve a pathway to a good-paying job, whether they choose to pursue a college degree, technical certificate, or an apprenticeship,”

The two-year Equity Transfer Initiative, led by the American Association of Community Colleges, awards up to $27,500 to partnerships to increase transfer and completion for underrepresented student populations, including Blacks, Hispanics, adult and first-generation learners. The goal of the initiative is to help remove barriers and enhance completion of degrees that lead to family-sustaining wages, college officials said.
