I’m in so much pain right now,” were the words Madelyn Linsenmeir uttered days before her death following her arrest by Springfield police in 2018. According to a lawsuit filed last year in U.S. District Court, her pleas for help went unheeded by both Springfield police and staff at the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center, where she ultimately died from a heart infection. A federal judge this week refused to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Linsenmeir’s family against the city and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, rejecting arguments by attorneys for both.

Miller was found dead in Hopkinton on the morning of April 18. At the time, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office said foul play wasn’t suspected in her death, WHDH reported. Since then, however, Miller’s family members and loved ones, members of the community and activists in Greater Boston have questioned the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

Worcester Police Department will begin wearing body cameras by 2022

WORCESTER  The city Friday said it intends to implement a police body camera program by 2022 at the latest, and will start scheduling meetings to get community input shortly. “The city is committed to a body camera program, and will soon be engaging in community conversations on what that would look like,” spokesman Walter Bird wrote in an email to the Telegram & Gazette on Friday.  “I’m grateful for the announcement from the city today,” James P. McGovern, the city’s longtime Democratic Congressman, said in a telephone interview, adding that federal COVID-19 relief funds should ease the program’s cost.
