Spiritual communities along the Roaring Fork Valley are inviting people to take a moment Saturday to reflect on what the pandemic as has meant to everyone. The Spring Equinox (March 20) seems an ideal time as it signals the move from dark to light. On that day, which is the spring equinox, churches, synagogues and spiritual centers up and down the valley will be opening between noon and 2 p.m. to enable people to come in and reflect. There will also be online opportunities. Or, visit a special place in nature during the timeframe noon to 2 p.m. for a time of reflection.

A public document? Impact fee petition long over, as councilwoman holds tight to list

In January of 2020, Killeen City Councilwoman Shirley Fleming began a citywide petition. More than a year later, after repeated requests by the Herald, she has yet to give a copy of the petition to the Herald. The purpose of her and her advisory committee, at the time: Conduct a petition drive for the city to reconsider impact fees, which the council in a split vote had turned down a month before. The reason Fleming says she doesnât have to give a copy of the petition to the Herald? She was circulating the petition strictly as a âprivate citizenâ â and not in her formal role as a city councilmember, Fleming said last week.
