Policy Group Calls for Public-Private Cyber-Defense Program
The proposed National Cyber Response Network would link federal agencies, companies, and local governments, allowing collaboration during a cyberattack.
Creating plausible scenarios of cyberattacks launched by nations such as China or Iran, or by domestic terrorists and hacktivists, a policy group has concluded that too many roadblocks hinder the effective response to a major attack on US government agencies or private industry.
In a report published last week, the New York Cyber Task Force (NYCTF) a group of policy makers, private industry, and consultants recommended that the United States create a National Cyber Response Network, linking together existing government and industry groups into collaborative network that could speed response to any attack. Caribbean Initiative programing with a high-profile event featuring
Dr. the Hon. Keith Christopher Rowley, prime minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and current chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The Caribbean Initiative, which was introduced in September 2020, will lead a targeted effort to highlight the geo-strategic importance of the Caribbean region to the US and the hemisphere. Its immediate portfolio will include the development of the Financial Inclusion Task Force composed of bankers, international financial institutions, and leading experts to identify innovative solutions to the underbanked region and serve as an ongoing forum to address financing for regional climate change adaptation.
The full budget, set to be released on May 3, should spark heated debate in Congress between an emboldened progressive wing of the Democratic party looking to cut defense budgets, and Republicans and conservative Democrats who say spending must increase to stay ahead of the Chinese military buildup.
