Sen Brian Strickland introduces probation reform bill

ATLANTA — State Sen. Brian Strickland, R-McDonough, has introduced legislation that could help reduce the amount of time people spend on probation. Strickland represents the 17th District, which includes parts of Newton, Rockdale and Henry counties. Senate Bill 105 provides a unified process by which individuals who have served at least three years on probation and have successfully met a list of eligibility criteria can seek early termination of their probation sentence. According to the Georgia Justice Project, Georgia has more individuals on probation or parole than any other state in the country: 1 in 18 Georgians. The average probation sentence in Georgia is slightly more than six years versus the nationwide average of two years. Forty percent of all probation sentences in Georgia exceed 10 years.

GoLocalProv | ALCU of RI Joins Conservative Groups in U S Supreme Court Brief in Major Search and Seizure Case

The ALCU has filed a brief along with conservative advocacy groups in the U.S. Supreme Court. The American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island announced Monday that it has filed a “friend of the court” brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in a case that they say raises significant issues concerning the scope of Fourth Amendment protections and police warrantless searches of the home. The brief argues that an unfavorable ruling in the case could “give police free rein to enter the home without probable cause or a warrant, whenever they think it is ‘reasonable’ to do so.”

Cleta Mitchell s journey from progressive Oklahoma lawmaker to Trump lawyer | News

7 min to read NORMAN — Despite having just come to national attention in the past week for her involvement with President Donald Trump, Cleta Mitchell once had a heavy hand in progressive Oklahoma politics. Mitchell is now known as the estranged lawyer who was advising Trump during a phone call, first reported by The Washington Post, in which Trump and Mitchell attempted to coerce Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger into overturning the election results in Trump’s favor. Mitchell can be heard numerous times throughout the phone call making baseless claims of voter fraud while being continuously cut off by Trump. But Mitchell wasn’t always peddling claims of fraud and fighting to overturn elections.

Tim Graham: NY Times claims leftists in Biden s Cabinet are centrists — reporters sound like Dem politicians

What, in today s political culture, is a centrist ? Old-fashioned political nerds define the term by support for legislation and policy proposals. If you love really big tax cuts and favor abolishing several Cabinet departments, you re not a centrist. If you want to defund the police and end fossil fuels, you re also not a centrist. This is one of those matters of political categorization that our most prestigious newspapers mangle on a regular basis. Liberal editors and reporters have an annoying tendency to define the center as the precise location where they stand on the ideological spectrum. Case in point: The New York Times placed this fraudulent headline at the top of the print edition of its front page Sunday: On Philosophy, Biden Cabinet Leans Centrist. (On the newspaper’s website, the headline was similar: Biden Cabinet Leans Centrist, Leaving Some Liberals Frustrated. ) This is simply preposterous.
