During the presidential primary in 2019, Sanders wrote a fiery letter to the Center for American Progress, which Tanden led, accusing her of maligning my staff and supporters and belittling progressive ideas.
The Vermont senator, a self-described democratic socialist, also criticized a video by ThinkProgress, a project of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, which accused him of changing his rhetoric on wealthy Americans after he became a millionaire in 2016.
The bad blood runs deep. In 2019, The New York Times reported that Tanden, years earlier, had punched Faiz Shakir, Sanders 2020 campaign manager, in the chest. The incident allegedly occurred in 2008 after Shakir, then-chief editor of ThinkProgress, questioned Clinton about the Iraq War, an issue that had plagued her presidential campaign.

Congress set a new diversity record this year with its highest-ever number of women and racial minorities, including 60 Black lawmakers.
People of color have historically had a tougher time getting elected to the Senate. Newly elected Raphael Warnock is only the 11th Black US senator since the Senate convened for the first time in 1789. Only two of those have been women. Voters in urban congressional districts tend to be more diverse and politically progressive, driving the higher number of minorities in the House. But that has had little effect on the number of Black senators.

President Biden signed new sweeping ethics rules, but waivers remain a loophole, and watchdog groups say the pledge stops short of full reform.
Under the new
order, executive branch officials must pledge not to lobby their former agency for two years, but waivers can be issued if it is in the public interest.
The decision falls to the Office of Management and Budget, to be led by Director Neera Tanden, once confirmed by the Senate. Tanden, as the head of the liberal Center American Progress and its political arm, the Center for American Progress Action Fund,
raised millions from Silicon Valley and Big Tech firms.
