The American Bar Association Center for Human Rights (ABA CHR) is seeking an experienced staff attorney to join its Justice Defenders Program. Candidates with substantial experience working on issues pertaining to human rights in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are encouraged to apply.
1) Background
The Justice Defenders Program provides pro bono legal assistance to human rights advocates working in difficult environments and vulnerable circumstances by:
• Advising on, and raising public awareness of, sensitive trials and cases;
• Connecting pro bono lawyers with requisite expertise with local lawyers to provide advice on international law standards, share best practices, and assist in developing advocacy and litigation strategies; and

The American Bar Association’s Center for Human Rights (CHR) has recently expanded its trial monitoring program in partnership with the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s TrialWatch initiative. The TrialWatch initiative conducts trial monitoring worldwide in cases that present a significant risk of injustice. In particular, the project focuses on criminal trials in which courts may be used to oppress vulnerable groups, silence speech, or target political opponents.
The Center for Human Rights is actively seeking trial observers to monitor criminal proceedings globally on behalf of the TrialWatch initiative. The trial monitor serves as the eyes and ears on the ground during the proceedings in question. Monitors should be prepared to:

The American Bar Association Center for Human Rights (Center) is seeking a contracting organization to plan and execute a 3.5-hour event following the release of the Center’s report regarding discrimination against Dalit (“untouchable”) members of the justice sector in Nepal, Bangladesh, and India. The contracting organization will be responsible for inviting 250 participants, including members of human rights committees, federal lawmakers, provincial lawmakers, academics, civil society organizations, and Dalit rights and empowerment advocates from the three aforementioned countries. The contracting organization will also invite representatives of the U.S. Government, including the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the State Department. The contracting organization will maintain a registry of all RSVPs, attendees, and speakers, draft a program schedule in collaboration with the Center, and conduct follow-up advocacy after the event by connecting with the Ce
