Hotels push to become COVID-19 vaccination sites

ORLANDO, Fla. – Vaccination sites continue to pop up, from grocery stores to convention centers and even the airport. Add hotels to that list of possible sites, after the American Hotel & Lodging Association sent a letter to the President-elect’s transition team and other top government agencies advocating to assist in administering vaccines. “America’s hotels stand ready to work alongside America’s governors as states continue to move forward in administrating the COVID-19 vaccine,” the letter said. “By quickly mobilizing an existing network of sites, hotels can help strengthen the delivery and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in communities across the country to better streamline and build on current state efforts.”

Students handle Hilton Orrington/Evanston closing weeks before NU move-in

Just six weeks before Northwestern underclassmen were slated to return to campus, the Hilton Orrington/Evanston temporarily closed, citing pandemic concerns. According to a Nov. 18, 2020, email sent to customers with upcoming reservations, the hotel was temporarily shutting down and canceling all reservations. The email, signed by the Hilton Customer Care Team, said the customers would not be charged and offered to connect them with other hotels in the area. “Due to the current travel environment, Hilton Orrington/Evanston has temporarily suspended operations and unfortunately will not be able to honor your reservation,” the email read. “Please accept our sincerest apologies for this short notice on the travel disruption and any inconvenience this may cause.”
