Despite the fact that fraud is rare, many states have enacted laws that penalize “fraudulent” requests for service and assistance animals (which include emotional support animals). While the intent behind them is understandable, such laws are misguided and only serve to discriminate against individuals living with a disability, increase the risk of a fair housing violation, and jeopardize federal funding.
The federal disability rights laws, namely the Fair Housing Act (FHA), Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), Rehabilitation Act (RHA), and Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA), preempt state and local laws that conflict with their purpose. That is, if compliance with a state or municipal law violates one of these laws, the federal law controls. The Frewsburg Central School District might be asking local residents this spring to approve a capital improvement project.
On Thursday during the Frewsburg Central School District Board of Education meeting, Shelly O’Boyle, Frewsburg superintendent, discussed the possibility of a capital project vote in May. The discussion started by O’Boyle talking about how the district’s architect, Young and Wright Architectural, recently completed the building condition survey, which details how much life is left in different aspects of each school facility. She said the survey will be used to determine the most needed items for the district’s next capital project. She also said 2021 is the next planned year for a capital project in the district, which is done every five years.
Several companies have now made public their efforts to get workers vaccinated, including offering one time bonuses and other financial incentives for employees who opt to get their shot.
When Israeli-American violinist Itzhak Perlman debuted at Carnegie Hall in 1963, he performed while seated a consequence of the polio that left him unable to walk without leg braces or crutches since age 4.
