Rural Olmsted County Man Falls For IRS Scam

Rural Olmsted County Man Falls For IRS Scam Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an IRS-related scam. A 72-year-old rural Olmsted County man told investigators he received a phone call last September from a person who said he was an IRS agent. The caller told the victim the IRS was reaching out to taxpayers to help protect them from scams.  Over a period of months, the victim sent checks to various addresses.  By the time his family became aware, the man was out of $22,000. Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Behrns says the case serves as another example to the public about IRS-related phone calls. He says the IRS never calls taxpayers as the agency’s communication is through the mail system.

South Dakota Is One of the Most Car-Dependent States in America

South Dakota Is One of the Most Car-Dependent States in America The day we were handed our driver s license was the day that our lives truly became free. At first, that might seem like a bit of an overstatement but when you stop and think about it, that moment was the beginning of a time in our life where we no longer had to rely on someone else to take us where we needed to be, and as long as we had enough gas in the tank, we could go wherever the road would take us. When associate the places in America where being behind the wheel is a crucial part of everyday life you might imagine heavily populated places like California and New York, where lengthy commutes lead to lots of windshield time. But it s the more spread out places, like South Dakota, where our reliance on our vehicles becomes even more pressing.

NH Cop Writes Danger Zone About Significant Drugs in the State

John Tommasi put up a Facebook post last week about a book that he had written called, Danger Zone.   The book is set here in NH and is based upon John s experience working as an undercover drug cop for an operation started by the DEA.  I emailed John and asked him to answer a few questions for me about his book.   How long were you a DEA agent and why did you choose to do it? I was a Sgt at Salem PD when I was assigned to the NH Drug Task Force (1987) that was formed by then AG Stephen Merrill. I was there two years full-time and another 3 years part-time.  At the time I owned a flight school and charter business and my undercover persona was that of a pilot who would fly anything, anywhere for a price.  As a result, many of my deals were at airports where I would fly in and do the deal at the airport.  I did a lot of undercovers since I was single at the time.  The 1st 3 chapters of the book are close to the way that particular case actually happened.  The rest has a lo

Sunnyside Lotto Winner Almost Threw the Ticket Away!

Sunnyside Lotto Winner Almost Threw the Ticket Away! I usually scan my lottery tickets on my Washington Lottery mobile app. If it s a loser, many of those tickets can be logged in as points. I don t have enough points yet to purchase something cool, but I think it s mostly lotto swag. I ve won $200 a couple times, but mostly it s just a few bucks if I win anything at all. After my lotto app tells me I ve won $4 or whatever, I take it to a convenience store and re-invest. You can also use the lottery vending machines you see in grocery and convenience stores to check your ticket. If you win $4 it will ask if you want to use it as credit to buy more tickets, or you can cash it. But I ve always wondered what displays if you win a jackpot. Does it display.YOU VE WON $2.7 MILLION?
