Hungarian Plans for First Chinese University in Europe Prompt Security, Propaganda Fears - New Delhi Times

Critics fear the development the first of its kind in Europe will be used by Beijing to spread Chinese Communist Party propaganda and could pose a threat to national security. The so-called “Student City” will be built on the site of a former wholesale market outside the nation’s capital, with its centerpiece a branch of the prestigious Shanghai-based Fudan University. Hungary said it will raise the standard of higher education, offer courses to 6,000 students from Hungary, China and further afield, while bringing Chinese investment and research to the country.

Government to Promote Electric Car Purchases Hungary’s government is once again inviting tenders for grants to promote electric car purchases by private individuals and companies, a senior official of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology said on Thursday. State Secretary Tamás Schanda noted at a press conference that last year the government awarded grants totalling 6 billion forints (EUR 16.7m) to help 1,712 bidders buy 2,053 vehicles. Demand fully reached the limit within 36 hours of the scheme’s opening, he added. The government continued to implement its Climate and Environment Protection Action Plan, even during the coronavirus pandemic, to make Hungary a climate-neutral, clean country without imposing burdens on the population, Schanda said.

V4 Goes Hydrogen

Given the main aims of the European Green Deal, hydrogen may be perceived as one of the key enablers of decarbonization of the heavy industry and transport. The funds and investment opportunities available for hydrogen projects will be mobilizing both public and private investments including the recovery instrument – Next Generation EU. V4 governments are approving strategic documents to enable the development of hydrogen technologies. The private sector in V4 is also seeking opportunities for the deployment of hydrogen in transport, energy and industry. Main questions – What is the state of play regarding hydrogen in V4 countries? – How to shape new policies and legislation respecting the differing starting points and technological neutrality in V4?
