The Jigawa State Government said that it will take all the necessary action against any defaulter as the Central Bank of Nigeria disburses N4b loan to rice farmers in the state.
Governor Badaru Abubakar stated this at the official distribution of 2021 dry season rice farming input, in Dutse.
He said the President Muhammad Buhari-led administration has introduced a number of initiatives to improve yields and provide farmers with new farming techniques to boost food production in the country.
The governor explained that in the last two years, Jigawa State Government has refunded over 700 million naira to the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN following the supply of substandard wheat seeds to farmers under the anchor borrowers programme.

In 2004, Chinasa Asonye was an accountant in Lagos with an oil servicing firm. At that time she was married with four children.

Allocations by federal and state governments to agriculture in 2021 have fallen below five per cent, less than half way into the bottom line agreed to at the Maputo and Malabo declarations, signed by the Federal Government in 2003 and 2014.
The extant declarations recommend a minimum of 10 per cent of total public budgets to the sector to enhance food production and wealth creation, as well as reduce escalating malnutrition in Africa.
But of the Federal Government’s total budget, only N280,135,513,553 is allocated to personnel, overhead and capital expenditures of the agric sector, representing a paltry 1.73 per cent of the total sum.

As Nigeria plans to increase the production of rice, 20 seed companies benefited from rice seed distribution by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural (FMARD) across the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory in 2020.
This was disclosed in a document obtained by PREMIUM TIMES on Monday.

In 2017, the production of rice paddy rose to about seven million metric tons (mmt) under the Buhari administration, which seems to be the highest since 1999.

Lagos, a cosmopolitan, commercial capital of Nigeria and with a population of over 20 million, although, not agrarian state, is putting in all efforts to invigorate agriculture practice with a view to ensuring food sufficiency.
To this end, the state government has concluded plans to create one million youth farmers in the agricultural space by 2023.
According to government sources, the project is to make the five-year agricultural master plan for Lagos, a youth inclusive programme.
Hopefully, between 2022 and 2023, the state should be having well over a million youth farmers in the agriculture space,’’ Ms Abisola Olusanya, the state Commissioner for Agriculture says.
