Councillor says extensive delays at MUH s ED are not acceptable Published: Sunday, 04 April 2021 13:22
The extensive delays being experienced by patients attending the Emergency Dept at Mayo University Hospital at present, is not acceptable, according to a Castlebar councillor.
Fine Gael councillor Cyril Burke raised his concerns over the situation at the recent monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.
He began by pointing out that HSE issues were not directly related to Municipal District meetings, but he said he had to highlight the concerns and experiences that people had highlighted to him over recent days. He described elderly patients presenting at the ED of the hospital in the afternoon and not being discharged until the early hours of the morning.

No viable solution to link new modular unit at MUH to the main hospital without patients going outdoors Published: Wednesday, 03 March 2021 08:30
Patients in the recently installed modular unit, that is an extension to the Emergency Dept at Mayo University Hospital, must go outside into the open air, in order to access other services such as scans or x-rays in the main hospital building.
The situation is not acceptable, according to Castlebar councillor Michael Kilcoyne, who has raised concerns over sick patients having to go out into the elements at all times of the day and night, to access essential medical services.
