More than a dozen homes on Scugog Island have been hooked up to natural gas as part of a provincial project.
On Friday, Durham MPP Lindsey Park announced Ontario’s Natural Gas Expansion Program has served its first 16 customers.
As the project wears on, the province says it will connect around 780 homes and 30 businesses to gas lines.
“Finally, natural gas meters are spinning and residents and businesses on Scugog Island are connecting to affordable natural gas to heat their homes and run their businesses,” said Park in a statement. “This work has continued during the pandemic to enable local customers to save money now and into the future from switching to natural gas from other costlier sources.”
