In addition to its fishing, Marco Island was once a major supplier of pineapples, mangoes, and other citrus fruits to the rest of the United States. Women she met told her she was hilarious and needed to try comedy. So Koplitz attended an open mic night at Gladys Comedy Room inside Hamburger Harry s near Times Square.
She had planned some lines for her act but decided to scrunch up her notes and just speak from what she knew. Her mom even flew from Virginia to watch her perform.
Koplitz says it was that night when she learned she had found her calling.
“Every door that never opened for me as an actress opened for me as a comedian, she said. I had been in the right neighborhood on the wrong street all these years. All of a sudden I did standup and God said, ‘Finally!

1. Saturday: Brushes, Paint & Beyond
An expanded outdoor art show is coming to Marco Island Saturday, March 20. Held at the Marco Island Historical Museum, the Brushes & Paint & Beyond Art Show will not only bring oil, acrylic and watercolor painters but also artists creating ceramics, sculptures, fiber art, glass, batik, found objects and more.
Provided by the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts (MIFA), the show is held under the eaves of the museum so that tents are not required.
Artists who want to show their work in the traditional white tent can do so on the mound in front of the museum.
