Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that due to new community cases today evening, Auckland is moving back to Alert Level 3 for one week starting tonight.
One new community case with a link to Papatoetoe High School
A sibling of a Papatoetoe High School student, who was a casual plus contact of the recent Auckland community cases, has tested positive for Covid-19.
The Ministry of Health confirmed the case in a statement this evening.
Papatoetoe High School was due to reopen this Monday after having to close for cleaning and contact tracing when the first student of the recent cases tested positive on 14 February.
Singh owns Ravi Jewellers and said the outbreak “has been bad for business”. Those out running errands or shopping on the street had noticed the reduction in people as well, but many said the community had come together.

Ravinder Singh, Papatoetoe businessman said news of the recent Covid-19 cases and subsequent alert level 3 change had hurt his business. Andrew Walbran said, while eating his breakfast outside a bakery, that while businesses might feel a pinch, the response from the community as a whole had been positive. It’s been hard for parents too, with some worried not only about their children, but also about how uncertainty around the outbreak might affect their work and household incomes.

After resorting to knocking on doors, contact tracers last night had just one Papatoetoe High School student left to track down and test for Covid-19.
The 10-day delay to reach the final handful of students has been labelled frustrating by Covid-19 Minister Chris Hipkins.
