The decision of India and Pakistan’s Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) was unlikely to have been purely local, say experts, pointing to the language of the joint statement while declaring an observance of the 2003 ceasefire from the midnight of February 24/25, which has the “imprimatur” of high-level approval on it, though there is little clarity on the nature of the back-channel operating between the two countries two days after the announcement.

NEW DELHI: India and Pakistan could upgrade their diplomatic ties which had witnessed derailment after the Narendra Modi government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories in 2019, multiple sources have told ThePrint.
According to official sources, India and Pakistan are now likely to reinstate high commissioners in each other’s capitals, after having downgraded their missions in 2019. The sources added that New Delhi may allow a Saarc summit which has been pending since 2016 following tensions between India and Pakistan over the Uri attack, to take place in Islamabad later this year. In such a scenario, Modi is likely to visit Islamabad to attend the summit.

The agreement came as visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan met here with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for bilateral ties, the Xinhua news agency reported.
During the meeting on Wednesday, Khan underlined the exceptional quality of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka relations with mutual trust, understanding and support.
The Pakistani Prime Minister emphasised the importance of building robust economic partnership between the two countries characterised by enhanced bilateral trade, investments and commercial cooperation.
