The teachers' strike has been called off following a consent order signed by Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) and government to have teachers to go back to work
Newly established human rights watchdog, the Centre for Mindset Change (CMC), has challenged President Lazarus Chakwera and his Tonse Alliance-led administration to take decisive steps in addressing the social and economic problems besetting livelihoods of the ordinary citizens.
Kamangira: There is level of political and leadership malnutrition, state impunity, deceitfulness, executive arrogance and indecisiveness that is demonstrated by the Tonse Alliance under the leadership of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera
CMC executive director Philip Kamangirah says they are worried with the snail’s pace at which Chakwera is moving to resolve challenges that are weighing down poor Malawians.
He accuses the Tonse government of overseeing state impunity, executive arrogance and indecisiveness, which he says is a demonstration of a failed and malnourished leadership.
The Malawi government is refuting reports that it has obtained an injunction against the ongoing national wide teachersâ strike.
The teachers led by its mother body Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) wants the Tonse Alliance government to give them COVID-19 risk allowances but the government is refusing to do so.
On Tuesday TUM and government officials were rocked up in a meeting but the two agreed to disagree on the matter
In the evening, social media was awash with reports that the government had obtained an injunction on the matter.
Following this Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) President Willie Malimba also confirmed that he had indeed been served with a court injunction.

Malawians must not forget that during the past MCP rule there were no such things as trade unions. It is therefore difficult for MCP be dancing to trade unions songs. Malimba should be careful otherwise he can be killed by MCP.
