Since Otter Tail County began pursuing criminal charges in cases of welfare fraud last year, it has referred 11 cases to law enforcement and three people are facing charges, Otter Tail County commissioners heard during their Tuesday, April 13 meeting.
“We had not been doing that for quite some time,” said county collections officer Crystal Herman. “Some of these crimes are pretty egregious. We’re talking huge dollars, we’re talking misinformation intentionally given to the agency over many years so we felt there was a need to start pursuing those criminally again.”

COVID-19 cases in Becker, Hubbard and Otter Tail counties are seeing a slight increase.
From March 26-April 9, Becker County had 163 additional positive cases; Hubbard County 39; Otter Tail County 213; Todd County 64 and Wadena County 31. From March 19-April 2, Becker County had 101 additional positive cases; Hubbard 22; Otter Tail 183; Todd 69 and Wadena 31.
64 new COVID-19 cases reported in Clay, Otter Tail and Becker Counties; state reports 1,994 new infections, 2 new COVID-related deaths Monday
On Monday, April 12, the state reported an additional 1,994 COVID-19 cases, totaling 544,046 for the entire pandemic, and 2 additional deaths, totaling 6,959 for the entire pandemic. Becker County reported 134 active cases, a decrease of 16 active cases since Friday. Otter Tail County reported 97 active cases, an increase of 31 active cases since Friday.
