Neurodiversity is one of the great unaddressed issues of our time, says Children’s Commissioner Judge Andrew Becroft, who will address the Belief Change Family Journey forum in Queenstown this weekend.
This year’s Forum is hosted by Dyslexia Foundation of New Zealand, sponsored by Cookie Time Charitable Trust. Judge Becroft, keynote speaker at the Forum, will talk about the critical importance of whānau/family in the wellbeing and resilience of children with neurodevelopmental issues, including dyslexia.

Final submissions before the Waitangi Tribunal are set to go ahead today against Oranga Tamariki, with National Urban Māori Authority chairwoman Lady Tureiti Moxon filing as one of the claimants.
Moxon s position on the matter is that Oranga Tamariki s current child protection system in Aotearoa does not work for Māori and says many of the Crown s own witnesses have agreed.
Among those were allegations of psychological, physical and verbal abuse, fat shaming, ongoing issues with mental well-being and body image, and athletes expected to compete on serious injuries. The cost of a review was set to rise as gymnastics now addressed changing its culture, following the release of the “confronting, sobering” review. The $250,000 funding covered the review, and the opening of Sport NZ’s Independent Complaints Mechanism to the gymnastics community.

Sport New Zealand chief executive Raelene Castle was pleased to be able to support Gymnastics New Zealand. The Independent Complaints Mechanism was overseen by lawyer Steph Dyhrberg who received and managed “the cases of survivors who have stepped forward”, Castle said.

In a statement, Moss said it had been a privilege to lead the Ministry for over four years through a time of significant transformation, challenge and change . However, I believe it is the right time for the agency for me to step down and make way for new leadership. I feel the focus has been on me rather than how we work together to improve the well-being of children.
It comes after Moss faced pressure to step down last year over Oranga Tamariki s treatment of Māori. Among those calling for her resignation were former Māori Party leader Dame Tariana Turia.
