ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Interested in working with public transportation? Now is your chance to get your foot in the door.
The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) is looking to add three new, full-time members to its service crew.
Applications will be accepted until Jan. 19. Qualified candidates will then receive phone interviews.
Here’s what the job posting says:
TheRide service crew members support the public transportation organization through a variety of duties, including fueling and servicing AAATA vehicles daily, emptying fare boxes, performing fluid checks, recording vehicle information, washing vehicles and cleaning debris from storage areas.
Listen to the story.
TheRide collected $3.6 million in fare revenue in 2020, compared to $6.8 million in 2019. However, TheRide received over $20 million in federal COVID-19 funding last year to help cover operational costs during the pandemic. John Metzinger is the deputy CEO of finance and administration for TheRide and says they’re currently operating at 60% of their capacity.
John Metzinger: And we’re planning to restore services to near 100% of our service level by August 2021. Although the fixed-route bus network may not operate exactly as it did before the pandemic due to change in customer demands.
Metzinger says TheRide is concerned about the long-term impact the pandemic could have on its future budgets if state revenue sharing for transit decreases because of COVID-19.

ANN ARBOR – 2020 is history.
It will no doubt go down as one of the most unusual years in our city’s - and our country’s - history. Never content to simply be along for the ride, Ann Arbor has taken on every issue that the year presented in its own unique way.
From the eerily quiet streets that characterized the early peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March and April to the fever pitch of a tumultuous election year, from the isolation of self-quarantine to the vibrant culture that emerged again as we learned new ways to connect through the year, Ann Arbor’s story was written in moments big and small.

ANN ARBOR – Downtown area associations have joined an annual campaign to encourage visitors to continue shopping and dining in the city throughout the month of January.
Typically a slow time of year for business, the pandemic has only exacerbated the lack of customers at local establishments.
The Main Street Area Association, State Street District, Kerrytown District Association, and South University Area Association have partnered with the getDowntown Program for “Conquer the Cold - Pandemic Edition.”
