The date is set! Let s get ready to bike! Or in my case, order an Uber and drive behind the bikers shouting words of encouragement. Last year RAGBRAI, or the Register s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, was unfortunately put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was the first time since 1973 that bikers would not make this trek. As it stands now though, it looks like all things are a go! Officials for the 426-mile-ling ride are working with the local towns to make sure that everyone can safely enjoy RAGBRAI this year. RAGBRAI director confident full-scale ride will happen in 2021

Des Moines Register RAGBRAI Director Dieter Drake says he has growing confidence that the 2021 edition of RAGBRAI will happen as a full-scale ride albeit with some COVID-19-related precautions.  The 48th Register s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa is scheduled for July 25-31. Its 426-mile route will take riders from Le Mars to Sac City, Fort Dodge,Iowa Falls, Waterloo, Anamosa and DeWitt, ending in Clinton. Last year the ride was canceled for the first time in its history because of the pandemic. At the end of January, Drake and other RAGBRAI organizers announced that the ride would be back for 2021, but they acknowledged there were still many questions to answer about its scale and format.

Just a few weeks ago, organizers behind the Register s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa announced the official route for RAGBRAI 2021. After cancelling last year s event because of the pandemic, the organizers and riders were hopeful that this year s event wouldn t see that same fate. Well, we are happy to report that RAGBRAI is BACK! Even though the official route was announced earlier this year, it was still unclear if RAGBRAI would be able to go on as planned. They were waiting for more details on COVID-19 and the vaccine rollout before making anything official. Now that we have a little more information on those issues, an update was posted to the RAGBRAI website just yesterday. It reads:
