Main Line From the Heart

Main Line From the Heart Andrea Carla Michaels loves the theme of this puzzle she created because, in a way, this is her life. Early television, though its offerings were limited, appealed to broad audiences, whether they were gathered in a bar or a barn. This grid uses mirror symmetry, as opposed to the typical rotational symmetry, so it might look strange if you’re unfamiliar with it. Combined with a nice lateral-thinking theme, the puzzle is both elegantly constructed, and an engaging solving experience. This is Leslie Rogers’s third puzzle for The New York Times, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she has planned next.

ACME) and Alan Massengill eases us into the slow and lazy week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, a time when you might toss aside your Zoom meeting blazer to lounge around the home office, catching up on crosswords. Though this puzzle accessible and smooth, even for a Monday has more than its share of crosswordese answers, it’s cleverly clued to make the most of them.
