AP Govt Challenges High Court s Verdict On Gram Panchayat Elections In Supreme Court Jan 22, 2021, 11:22 IST
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday gave green signal for the conduct of gram panchayat elections in four phases from February 5th. On January 8, the SEC announced the schedule for gram panchayat elections but the government of AP contended that holding elections would not be possible in view of the coronavirus vaccination programme.
The elections will be conducted in four phases and the notification for the first phase is going to be issued on January 23.
The Andhra Pradesh government filed a petition in the Supreme Court against HC verdict on the conduct of gram panchayat elections. The petition will be heard in the Supreme Court today.

To begin in four phases from Feb 5
In a setback to the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy administration, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday gave the green signal to conduct gram panchayat elections in four phases from February 5.
The Division Bench of the High Court, headed by Chief Justice Arup Kumar Goswami, struck down the order of a single judge delivered on January 11 suspending the election schedule announced by State Election Commissioner (SEC) N Ramesh Kumar.
The Division Bench allowed the SEC’s appeal against the single judge’s order and asked the Commission to conduct the gram panchayat elections in a hassle-free manner.

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday quashed a part of the first information report registered against three farmers, belonging to Scheduled Caste hailing from Krishnayapalem in Guntur district.

The gram panchayat election will be held in four phases beginning February 5.
The SEC will issue the election notification on January 23 for Phase-I, January 27 for Phase-II, January 31 for Phase-III and February 4 for Phase-IV.
The last date for nominations is January 27, 31, February 4 and 8 respectively. Polling where will be held on February 5, 9, 13 and 17. Voting will take place from 6.30 am to till 3.30 pm.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday stalled inquiry by the Special Investigation Team into the prestigious Waltair Club.
Advocates N. Ashwini Kumar and D. V. Sitharam Murthy, who filed a writ petition, contended that the club was allotted the Settlement Patta way back in 1964. Various revenue authorities had also pointed out that the property of Waltair Club was purely private in nature and government has no claim over the same.
