Kyrgyzstan and improving food safety management in the country’s fruit and vegetable sector. The work is funded by a $570,000 contribution from the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) and will support implementation of modern risk-based food safety management systems in fruit and vegetable production and processing.
This will help local producers ensure safety of their products, and increase access to domestic and international markets, mainly members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which the Kyrgyz Republic joined in August 2015.
Adnan Quereshi, FAO representative in Kyrgyzstan, said: “The project will have a positive impact on development of the fruit and vegetable sector and will provide an impetus to increase sales of Kyrgyz fruit and vegetables, which will ultimately lead to an increase in the profitability of small farms and processors in connection with the improvement of the fruit
Food firms consider automated temperature monitoring probe An automated core temperature measurement system that boosts food safety is being considered by food firms including a major Irish poultry processor following the signing of a worldwide licensing agreement to market it.
The agreement has been signed by automation specialist CME Ltd, which will bring the tool to market, and Industrial Technologies Limited, a sister company of Oven Temperature and Humidity Monitoring specialists McQueen Cairns Technology. The device, which is believed to be the first of its kind, is designed to integrate seamlessly into production lines and radically improve food safety standards and cost for operators in the cooked and ready-to-eat segment.

“Is this a onetime thing or are you looking to see this happening every month or every so often?”
Raymond Barkman
“We are hoping that it will happen every month or every week or as much as it can. But of course, Grenada has the population of a hundred thousand people so there are not a lot of people there. So, we are hoping this will be a normal thing for now on. This is the first trial and so we still have to see how the end result will be from this one and we have learnt a lot already up to now and so we hope that we can build on this one and see where it goes.”
