During its regular meeting Tuesday, May 11, the Cobb Board of Commissioners unanimously selected the head of the Roswell 911 Center as its new director for the county 911 Emergency Communications Department.
Melissa Alterio has led the Roswell 911 center for the past five years and worked in emergency communications for a total of 30 years. She previously served as the training director for the Orange County Emergency Services (911) in Goshen, N.Y.
Subscribe Ms. Alterio brings to Cobb County s Emergency Communications Department a wealth of valuable experience, knowledge and passion for helping others, said Cobb County Manager Dr. Jackie R. McMorris. She s committed to professional development of team members and seeks accreditation to our Emergency Communications Department. Her vision is innovative and inclusive, I know she will take the department to its next level of excellence.

Case count tops 824,000
At least 824,352 people in North Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus, and 10,501 have died since March, according to state health officials.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 2,458 new COVID-19 cases, down from 3,170 reported the day before.
Ten deaths were reported Monday. Deaths don t all occur on the day the state reports them. The state health department revises its daily figures as information becomes available.

Steady snowfall continues in Orange County

Orange County saw steady snowfall for several hours Wednesday evening into Wednesday night.
Montgomery is expected to get about 2 feet of snow by the time the snowflakes die down.
Orange County Emergency Services warned the community about of the severity of the storm.
It said power outages are possible and urged residents to stay home.
The New York State Thruway Authority announced a speed reduction of 45 mph from New Paltz to New York City.
