NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Mick Willing confirmed on Tuesday there will be a strong police presence in key areas. “You will see large numbers of police officers out and about, in uniform and from specialist commands, patrolling the greater metropolitan area like we always would during any other New Year’s celebration,” he said. Some inner-city councils, however, were frustrated by the late changes to gathering rules in Sydney’s CBD and have responded by closing their parks and public spaces.
