Health authorities in NSW remain stumped over how COVID-19 managed to leak from a quarantine hotel in Sydney s recent outbreak.
The state today recorded a week of no new cases of community transmission but investigations into the first local cases in over a month have failed to provide answers.
The couple in their 50s from Sydney s east tested positive on May 5 and were genomically linked with an overseas traveller from the US who entered hotel quarantine on April 26.
LIVE UPDATES: Despite extensive investigations into the source of two locally acquired cases announced last week, NSW Health has not identified how the initial case was exposed to COVID-19, NSW Health said in a tweet today.

NSW has recorded zero new local COVID cases overnight – marking a fourth consecutive day of no community transmission as restrictions across the Greater Sydney area and Central Coast are set to remain in place until Monday.
The state saw a dramatic drop in testing with 7,700 tests conducted in the past 24 hours compared to the nearly 14,000 tests carried out the previous day.
Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant on 2GB radio this morning encouraged anyone with the slightest symptoms to get tested, saying “what we want to make sure is that there is no other transmission occurring in the community that we’re missing”.
NSW Residents Aged 40-49 Able to Register for Pfizer Vaccine
New South Wales has opened a mass vaccination hub at Sydney Olympic Park after announcing that one million NSW residents aged 40 to 49 would now be eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine from Monday.
The hub will be open six days per week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and those aged between 40 to 49 who are interested can register for vaccination through NSW Health and be contacted when a booking is available. However, no specific date was given for when the rollout of vaccines for this age group will start.
“We can’t tell you exactly when you’ll be getting the jab, but we’ll be able to give you enough notice to get yourself here in the coming weeks,” NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said, noting that the vaccination needs to be given to emergency workers and aged care workers first.
