Coronavirus LIVE updates May 28: India recorded 1.86 lakh new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest daily spike in nearly 40 days. The country's active caseload has further declined to 23,43,152, while the recovery rate increased to 90.34 per cent, as per the Union health ministry's data released on Friday morning. Amid this, the government said the second Covid-19 wave in India is on the "downswing", but also highlighted that the current number of active cases is "still very high". In a fresh directive, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), without any directions for lockdown, said the states and union territories should go for intensive and local containment measures in districts with a high number of cases to check the spread of the deadly disease.
