As the second wave of coronavirus continues to engulf several parts of the country, the Centre on Monday said some states are showing very early signs of plateauing in daily new COVID-19 cases, while some remain a cause of concern. Addressing a news briefing, Joint Secretary in the Health Ministry Lav Agarwal said 13 states, including Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Punjab, are showing early signs of plateauing, while states like Bihar, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and West Bengal are showing an increasing trend in daily cases.

From April 15-28, Maharashtra contributed to 26.3 per cent of the total deaths, followed by Delhi 12.3 per cent, Chhattisgarh 8.9 per cent and the rest of the states 52.5 per cent, the joint secretary said.
The Centre on Friday expressed concern that many states are not only recording higher peak of coronavirus cases than in September last year but also seeing a high growth trajectory.

Mumbai:
COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 18-44 in Mumbai will be done at five centres today, the city s municipal body said.
These centres are Nair Hospital, BKC Jumbo Facility, Cooper Hospital, Seven Hills Hospital and Rajawadi Hospital, additional municipal commissioner (health) Suresh Kakani said.
He said at least 20,000 doses of vaccines are available for the age group 18-44.
Only those who are in this age group will be vaccinated on Saturday and Sunday, while those who are above 45 will be vaccinated whenever new vaccine stocks arrive.
The officer said only registered people, and not walk-ins, will be allowed for vaccination.
