At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Health Minister Christian Dubé said vaccines are the province's best tool in preventing the variant first detected in the United Kingdom, which is believed to be more contagious, from taking hold elsewhere in the province.

The number of hospitalizations due to the virus now stands at 618 patients, a decrease of 10. Of those patients, 120 are in intensive care a decrease of one.
On Tuesday, Quebec administered 16,117 vaccine doses.
Since the start of its vaccination campaign, the province has received 638,445 doses of which it has administered 472,710.
Of the new cases reported in Quebec on Wednesday, 338 were in Montreal.
A total of 107,086 infections have now been confirmed in the Montreal region.
Quebec reported that it analyzed 21,958 COVID-19 samples on March 1 (Quebec reports its daily testing figures from two days prior).
